XENIA — Kyle Allamon, 10 years old, of Xenia received top honors from the Miami Valley Tournament Association (MVTA) in February, for his accomplishments in martial arts tournaments in 2008. The MVTA is a local organization comprised of martial arts instructors in the Miami Valley area and championed by Director Doug Yates, also of Xenia.

During the year, martial arts students compete in tournaments and accumulate points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winnings in Forms, Weapons and Sparring. The points are totaled and the top students are recognized at an MVTA awards dinner.

Allamon finished the 2008 MVTA tournament season in 1st place in Forms, Weapons and Sparring in the Intermediate Division for 9/10 year old boys. This is the second year Allamon has competed in the MVTA tournament and received top awards both years. In addition, Allamon attended the “Arnold Sports Festival” in Columbus, Ohio on March 8, 2009. He continued his competitive Karate spirit when he was awarded a first place Gold Medal in Forms, and two Bronze Medals in Weapons and Sparring. The Arnold Sports Festival hosts hundreds of events and thousands of competitors every March in Columbus.

Allamon’s hobby is sports. He is an avid sportsman involved not only in Karate, but also plays basketball for Xenia Nazarene Church, soccer for the Xenia Soccer Club XSC and baseball through the Xenia YRC. He currently attends 4th grade at Simon Kenton Elementary School. Allamon is an outstanding achiever and no where is this more evident than in his school studies.

Allamon is self-motivated and understands that homework is a priority after school before any activity. He strives for academic excellence and makes getting good grades a priority.

He currently maintains an A average.

Kyle sometimes puts more on his plate with sports, school and home than he should, but he always manages with the help of his mom and dad to get everything done. Kyle has an excellent family support system.

Kyle is a member of the Partners Against Crime (PAC) organization. PAC is a non profit organization designed to assist boys and girls to become involved in activities as an alternative to crime and drugs. For the past 4 years, Kyle has advanced from a White Belt to a Red Belt, in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate and is looking forward to testing for his Black Belt next year.

According to his Karate Instructor, Sensei Olin, 7th degree black belt in Shorin-Ryu Karate and a member of the World Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do Federation (WSKF), “Kyle is a valued member of the PAC group. He has become a leader and role model to other members of the PAC group and Kyle leads by example.”

Kyle is always the first person to volunteer and has participated in many events this past year. He volunteered to sell McDonalds coupons and Elder-Beermans coupons to raise money for the PAC scholarship program. He picked up trash for the Great American Clean-up and worked to clean up individual areas within the neighborhoods surrounding the PAC training facility.

Kyle has experienced the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat and along the way has developed a strong sense of commitment to the Art of Karate, to his teammates and to himself. Kyle pushes himself and guides others to push themselves to be better karatists. Kyle’s drive and determination in karate class are helping him become an inspiration to others and someone the other students admire and look up to
